Randomly decided to check in after years and see talk of Doordie and Amel. Lots of fun memories! Arguably my first long time character, Narwyn, ended up closely aligned with Amel as his protege.
Doordie was one of the best RP's I ever played with. His stories, with his character Amel, were amazing. Rich, deep, complex. I hope Doordie is doing well! You have a really great Uncle!

The main problem with Kamas is that they can have GMW or Flameweapon or Darkfire cast on them (though I consider GMW the better of the three, personally for this).
Thus, one can take 1 level in Monk, and instantly increase the number of attacks that they have.
This may not seem like such a gain - more attacks but at lesser AB - but GMW makes up for this.
Thus, one can take a Mage, take one level of Monk, and suddenly, it no longer only has 2 attacks - it has much more!
Add in some GMW, and dual-wielding Kamas, and things start to look startling mechanics-wise.
So if one adds additional abilities to the Kamas, this only makes things even more lopsided.
And yes, it is true that a monk does loose the ac bonus due to wisdom if they wear armor

Oops, got that one wrong! Just goes to show you, that I do not use this sort of thing in my builds.

*chuckles and rubs hands together* Let's just say, there has been a long-term (and I mean very long term) building project underway that will address the issues raised about a lack of monk-items for mid-levels.
...That, and said project will be rolled out soon.
Look for a very large monkly-effort coming to a Thain near you!

YES!!! Thank you Ally... I'd LOVE to see what is about to be rolled out. Hopefully when I return, Shao will have a good look around. Long Live, Monks!!!

I was bored a few months ago and by most number I calculated with monks is seem quite balanced, a bit better at some areas, a bit worse in some.
Usualy the only two multiclass thats really good is either 1 or 2 for tumble and evasion, or 16 monk 4 "full BAB class" for one more attack round (however, that extra attack does cost you your 20 points DR and the concealment ability so I'd still say that its not that optimal on thain)

Actually, it's at level 16 that you get the 1d20 fist damage, so then you can take the 4 levels from 17-20 of the "full BAB class" and potentially get that extra attack. So all you'd miss out on is concealment. I don't know from experience (I went to 20 monk) whether that gives a monk 6 attacks per round unarmed, though, or if it caps at 5. Anyone?

6 attacks with flurry of blows, 5 without. Though, in normal PnP monks actually only receive 3 attacks and it's flurry of blows that add extra attack (I believe).

I think Hekja was referring to the 20/+1 damage reduction that monks get with the perfect self feat at level 20. A 16/4 multiclass of a monk and a full BAB class would have a BAB of 16 and therefore have 6 attacks per round when unarmed or using a kama.
