Randomly decided to check in after years and see talk of Doordie and Amel. Lots of fun memories! Arguably my first long time character, Narwyn, ended up closely aligned with Amel as his protege.
Doordie was one of the best RP's I ever played with. His stories, with his character Amel, were amazing. Rich, deep, complex. I hope Doordie is doing well! You have a really great Uncle!

Did anyone find the plot way too short? Maybe it just seemed short. I did 99% of the side quests as well (I checked). Such is the beauty of being unemployed and having free time during Thain non-peak periods.
That said, I immediately wanted to play it again. I wish there was another class that was as appealing to me as the Infiltrator -> Commando. I'm going to go through as a soldier on Hardcore just so I do a future class with assault rifles (or I'll stick with sniper).
Are there any fun classes people would recommend to play through that are skill heavy + fun? I used no combat skills as an infiltrator/commando and had an easy time...though going through on hardcore now may be a bit of an upgrade from normal mode.
Also: We need more villains like Irenicus or some other good villain whose name I can't think of.

The game itself wasn't too short (can't really complain about 30+ hours), but I meant that the main narrative seemed short. I don't want to risk spoiling it by going into detail. Perhaps I was simply swept away with the Mass Effect current and want more out of greed. If wanting more is the worst complaint I have about the game, I _guess_ it's alright.

Have it for 360, love it, but haven't got the time to get the expansion, which I believe is standard issue with the PC ver.? new aliens to Snipe and headshot with. me likes the sound of that.
Length-wise... its sorta just right i think. if the sidequests are all done. the rover part gets on my nerve after a few playthroughs though. endless driving around multiple planets looking for ores with not much in sight can get very repetitive.
Only thing i like about the rover is to jump over incoming missiles. but thats all.
Personally I go with Infiltrator with Sniper+Assault combo.
But after stacking up enough kills with a weapon or biotic, u could just add the skill to the new character.
Heres a trick I read online for 360. I wonder if it still works for the PC version too...?
Apparently if u have full Paragon and Renegade points, Charm and Intimidate skills will have been increased by four automatically even without spending any points in it.
Paragon increases Charm, and Renegade increases Intimidate (Free skill point on 1/3, 2/3, and full, plus one free increase to each skill on a story event)
So four playthroughs with the same character and the skill will be full, letting u spend those precious skill points on other stuff. The Biotic skills do soak up skill points fast. Besides, u can explore the all the conversation choices. sometimes the screw up choices are pretty funny.

On the free Charm/Intimidate points thing, when you replay the same character, your Paragon/Renegade points start at a hugely reduced value. That said, because they're measured on seperate scales not on a single one a la KOTOR, it's perfectly possible to max one out early on then work on the other - even to repeat and take different convo options sometimes and gain points for both.
As for the difficult, just fiddle with the settings. Reducing the Auto-aim correction makes it more fun for FPSers (i.e. not me! ) There is a noticable increase in the difficulty as you go up the scale and more imunities etc. are introduced to your opponents. I'm currently (sort of) into the Insanity setting, and it's a challenge even with the assistance at max.
As for fun classes? I found the Adept particularly fun, especially with maxed Stasis when you have the ability to damage enemies affected by it and freezing Lifted enemies never gets old either. If the PC release has the ability to choose a previously unlocked skill tree (as the 360 version does with its achievements) then adding assault or sniper rifle to an Adept is just a recipie for Win.
And Threasher Maws? The Jump button is your friend. [ Edited 11:14:46 PM 06/08/08 ]

I played through Mass Effect when it was first released for Xbox 360 and absolutely loved it. It's honestly the best console game I've played since Ocarina of Time hit the Nintendo 64. The story is so deep and immersive and the characters are just superb. It truly blurs the line between video game and film in its cinematic sequences as well. The dialogue sections, as well, feel very organic. I especially enjoyed how you were able to occasionally interrupt people if you wanted to be a jerk about it.
The gameplay, too, was excellent. Granted, I played through with a character that did not utilize the radial menu as often as others, and many of the complaints I've heard deal with that radial menu. But I felt that, though it was a bit awkward at first, using the radial menu eventually felt very natural.
I'm tempted to buy this game on PC so that I can play through again. Though, I'm not sure if my laptop could handle it.
