Randomly decided to check in after years and see talk of Doordie and Amel. Lots of fun memories! Arguably my first long time character, Narwyn, ended up closely aligned with Amel as his protege.
Doordie was one of the best RP's I ever played with. His stories, with his character Amel, were amazing. Rich, deep, complex. I hope Doordie is doing well! You have a really great Uncle!

I'm just wondering what's the policy on using such spells for RP purposes on Thain. For example, on the rare times I get to play lately I would like to have Alaythyir in Hamley casting as many "Create Food and Water" spells (3rd level cleric spell, creates enough food and water to sustain 3 people per caster level for 1 day) as he can prepare each day. Even though I doubt it would make any difference to whats going on there, or that he could create enough for everyone I'd like him to do what he could to help.
Another spell I know of that would be great for helping Hamley is "Hallow" (5th level cleric/druid spell) but there is no way any player would be allowed to just up and cast that one. But maybe if it was a joint effort between several cleric characters and had a lot of RP involved in preparing to cast it. Maybe even converting some of the people from Hamley and trying to get a holy shrine made in the center of the village it could be worked towards.
Anyway these are just my wonderings. If anyone else wants to ask about other D&D spells not in the game feel free to mention them here.

The Wish spell could be a great source of RP - one of the wizards on Thain could learn it, and then would be in great demand...or danger! The impacts of the wish would affect others, OMG, etc.

Though that left me with one of my favorite screenshots ever.

Meh. I use prestidigitation all the time. If it's in the PHB or the Spell Compendium, and it's within reason (eg. not world ending or something, just adds some flavor to the character) I call it fair game. My spells usually don't involve other characters anyway.

As long as they are by consent and add to the fun and story of the game I'm pretty cool with them. For example, detect evil is okay I suppose, but wouldn't be that great just using it on every "suspect evil" character at the crossroads. More so for certain creatures... but even evil creatures can have goals in mind that help good (though rarely).

I avoid Detect Evil. It's one of those spells that can unravel a character's progression, eg, if an evil character was masquerading as an LG Cleric.
I'd rather let the character play out than Scooby-Doo unmask him.

I know that some players, who play Paladins, who use detect evil, can be very respectful when it comes to using it.
If the character is trying to masquerade as a good character, and someone uses detect evil on them, this is when OOC communication and respect dominate. It's crappy to have one's RP ruined by someone who suddenly draws his sword, and points at the 'good guy'.
It's about fun, and suddenly going from working together to throat ripping, especially when both players are having fun already, the whole respect rule comes into play.

My thoughts exactly, Ritz.
