Randomly decided to check in after years and see talk of Doordie and Amel. Lots of fun memories! Arguably my first long time character, Narwyn, ended up closely aligned with Amel as his protege.
Doordie was one of the best RP's I ever played with. His stories, with his character Amel, were amazing. Rich, deep, complex. I hope Doordie is doing well! You have a really great Uncle!

Hi,
For those that haven't met him yet, my character J'redd is a Kreis Knight wannabe, whose father was a Kreis Knight. His father told him many a tale of Streinkreis / Thain and this is what I need help with -
What events in Thains History happened about 20-25 years ago?
I've read some of the books about Thain's history, but I'm not sure of the timeline, hence help/suggestions needed . Of course they don't have to be major events, just things on old soldier would tell stories about to his son.

Any "recent" timeline is bound to be shakey, as some characters have aged beyond that while others (raises a guilty hand) age in real-time mostly. Thain's modern time to me is one blur, because if I treated it as anything else my character's heads my explode, because there are people who are fully grown that my character had known their mothers when they were pregnant with them... and are older or-- GAHHH, you get the point.
But I digress, some important recent events:
*Fhelkhorn's Death - A rather recent happening, as far as the story's timeline goes this would've happened somewhere about a year ago... so they impact is very still felt, people are still touchy about it, etc.
*The Shadow War - Most everyone on the island felt this, so it is pretty important to note. I always imagine this as happening just long ago that maybe the young of Thain wouldn't know of it (the children, silly) and their parents tell them about the dark times with evil shadows and such. It also seems the new generation of players don't know much about it, but a summary (as far as I know, granted I wasn't heavily involved):
Zentarus was super evil, and his twin brother Andarus was super good. Zentarus, god of shadows, hated everything good and ruled by Andarus, god of light, and in a war that shook the island tried to destroy everything. After many battles Both gods died, unleashing the "Darkwet", a time of eternal night and stunted magic across the island (with rain too!). Slowly this lifted, and Thain returned to normal.
I'm sure there's more events others could add. :]

There are many minor things that might come more as rummors than anything else. Among other things drow attacks from when i first started playing, reciently the illithd attacked as well, the stingers attacked the shire and now seem to have grown due to a misterous force threatening davenshire.. etc. This kind of events might not be too relevant, but might form part of the story.

Perhaps you can look throuigh the categories of the 'best story' for the People's choice awards. They may give an impression of those events, both player run and DM run, that were important to characters, wenough that they may be retold to others. Of course, some of them may not be applicable as not every event there may have been known to anyone outside of the event, but some will have reached rumour form and from there the sky's the limit!
On searching I couldn't find the latest but here's a link to the 2007 people's choice awards, which might be better actually if you're looking for older stories

"In my day, you couldn't walk around the southeast o' Kreis after dark without you were wantin' to fight off the bloodsuckers. Kids today have it easy. No vampires, not even any werewolves or demons lurkin' round the orphanage. And those fancy healing fountains? Pah. Back then we bled like the gods meant us to! And speakin' of gods, we had a right feisty set of 'em, I tell you what!"

The events surrounding the Bloodguard and the Blood of the World would seem to be a fairly major one - Kreis essenially being taken over in a bloodless coup would have been a massive event in the life of a Kreis knight.
