Randomly decided to check in after years and see talk of Doordie and Amel. Lots of fun memories! Arguably my first long time character, Narwyn, ended up closely aligned with Amel as his protege.

Doordie was one of the best RP's I ever played with. His stories, with his character Amel, were amazing. Rich, deep, complex. I hope Doordie is doing well! You have a really great Uncle!

I wasn't on the quest to the tombs that started this thread, but Bombo Brundlebaum was on the Seer's Vision Quest that took us to the gates of Hammersong and beyond.

I'll clarify a few things only in regards to Bombo.

When faced with the prospect of demons near the gates, being in some sort of confederacy with giants, Bombo suggested that the dwarves be alerted of such a threat and be consulted with. The rest of the group disagreed and proceeded forward. However, like many of you, I strive to heed to my character's personality and adhere to that whenever possible. So, while the rest of the group moved on through Giant territory, I did follow what I believed was the best plan and consulted with the dwarves. I caught up with the group later on.

Also, Bombo was quite sure that the wizard knew of our presence and decided it would be best to talk with him. At that point the Dungeon Master running the adventure sent me a tell telling me to click on the wizard, which triggered a combat scenario.

All in all I thought it was a good adventure with enough of the old-school style roleplay to remind me what is best about NWN. It gives us a chance to play Dungeons and Dragons with a group of people all trying to bring life to a character and escape to an interesting fantasy world. Kudos to DM Lightfoot, who managed to talk as one of the dwarven sergeants with Bombo while the party was among the giants. Anyone who has ever done tabletop role-playing games knows how frustrating it can be for a DM and the waiting players when one character need 5 or 10 minutes of the DM's time out of earshot while the rest of the people at the table wait.

Maybe this isn't the place for suggestions though... sorry.

don't worry, it is the place for suggestions. if not here then where?

and don't worry if some people don't like your suggestions. that's fine. it also makes sense that most forum posts will disagree with each other because when you agree you're less likely to spend the time and effort saying so..

disagreement is good. the world would be unbelievably boring anyway, if everyone agreed about everything. that's why the gods gave us squidget.

And when we finally got inside, someone decided to RP his character's inexperience and curiosity... by talking to Mixie... and invoking the stock script...even though this was a DM-run event... and we were under the threat of a restart warning (less than 5 minutes to go).
I asked the player to mechanically speak to Mixie. That NPC is scripted to only go hostile and create his balor /after/ you spoke to him ... you don't speak to him and he wouldn't have fought as I wished him to (just to re-iterate what Ulrich said).

On topic ...

/all/ play styles are welcomed here on Thain smile

Some of us speak a little more at times, some of us speak a little less, but hopefully we can all adapt to play in many different groups and styles of RP, and still have fun smile

And PS to Ulrich:

Sorry if your character thought Jalla was being patronizing by suggesting you be the one to talk with the Hammersong guards. She had observed you hanging back, thinking that maybe your character was afraid or skittish of the whole expedition to encounter demonspawn coming from a portal in Mixie's (and justifiably to her mind, especially if your character was new to Thain and inexperienced, ie low level). The group was just basically standing near the gates, and obviously no one else was interested in talking to the guards, but it would have been only a step away and a just moment for Bombo to do so (didn't realize you'd go all the way inside).

My Jalla is not one to usually be anything but compassionate and patient and thoughtful, not rude. So if it came across wrong, I'll blame Tanna's bad influence on her for making it sound patronizing. *elbows Matt with a chuckle*

Yep, I knew you were a big enough mensch to handle it. *chuckle* Yep, I think Jalla picks up a cheeky attitude around Tanna, she'll have to watch that. *winks*

Hammersong basically told the C.D.F. to mind its own business and banned them from their lower halls. As far as I know that ban was never lifted so, except for one occasion when Brian requested and was granted permission to enter the lower halls, Brian wouldn't even think of communicating anything to them.

He's not going to go where he's not welcome. So he wouldn't care if they were informed or not or if any others he's with bothers to do so either.

Also, after initially wanting to try and enter the tower Brian thought better of it and suggested that they go for more help. There was that conversation with Tanna where he finally asked "You're going to try no matter what I say aren't you?"

She said yes so he just laid back after that and tried offering suggestions that were mostly ignored. There is no sense belaboring a point if your words aren't going to matter any way.

In fact he was trying to pull the hin out of the hole that was dug and stop him from entering before they decided on a plan when they both fell through and then the rest followed.

Not that any of those things are a big deal I just thought that I would point them out since they were mentioned earlier.

Running is a big clue. But it can also just be a newbie. Some IG comments like "Whats your hurry? Save your energy and keep your eyes open." Can easily discern someone willing to RP vs someone who just wants to run and gun. Easy to remove yourself from runners. Just don't run hehe.

In a persistent world where long-time characters will have been places many many times, its really up to the players to keep it interesting. Especially on an RP server. Whether thats a healthy RP'd respect for the place, some strategic "forgetfullness" of challenges/details, or simply not taking things for granted, its not hard to make even tired dungeons feel fresh.

As for Mojo's experience, i'd just make a note of the players, and chalk it up to learning what to expect from them. Take it into account before heading out with them on the next adventure. *shrug*

It seems a DM was working with the party in the case mentioned. When I used to DM, if the party was going too fast or too slow, I would talk to a few characters and ask them to slow down or pick the pace up as I felt it was needed. I'm sure most other DMs would do the same, much as if someone was speaking OOC overly much a short tell might be sent asking to stay in-character more. It's usually impossible to perfectly satisfy everyone, but some patience and understanding that the DM may have a slow, quick, or sometimes even a frenetic pace in mind for the adventure.
