This was inspired by the quarterstaff question for monks.

If it could be added, what would people think of non-elven druids allowed to use these?
Right know you have to be full elf druid to use them as bows are racial perk.

Rp wise it makes sense as if Druids are defends of wild places and such they should be able to use it.
People may say well you can use slings but slings are not as accurate shooting through trees as arrows.

The Druid class is a great class to play.

Non-elven races get around this by becoming rangers.

I think it doesn't quite suit the druid class, but if they will learn to use natural weapons the bow makes sense.

There are still other ranged options for druids, and I kind of don't view bows as "naturally occuring" or "close to earth" or what have you since most arrow heads are made of metal. Personally I would just multi-class for it, or take it as a feat.

I will add though that I am not actually opposed to this, it just doesn't really make that much sense to me from an "rp" point of view, and druids really don't need buffing since they're already really powerful anyway.

And really, ranger is not meant to be a ranged class. Fighter is actually better at this than rangers are.

Other ranged options are slings and darts. Darts are a bit better than slings. It would not be buffing.
As long as you have a level of druid you can not use a long or short bow unless you are an elf. In my opinion slings are a waste for this class. If I play a non-elven or half elf druid I usually use a scimitar which is forged metal not exactly made from nature.

The only other natural weapon druids can use is staves.

Probably for something like this to becaome reality, is for a majority to want it.

Yes rangers are a form of fighter class.

All you need to do is take martial weapon feat, really. Same as wizards, sorcerers, clerics, bards...

Druids' weapon proficiencies in core D&D reflect part of their training. It isn't so much an aversion to metal (as they may use metal-capped spears, and bullets for slings are traditionally made of heavy metals) as much as the weapons they use are the ones they are taught to use by other druids, who possess a defined culture and customs. They are not trained to use bows because they are trained in very few weapons -- weapons are not a druid's focus, as with clerics, wizards, and sorcerers. Nothing bars them from learning if they decide to be a different sort of druid.

Druid's only hard-locked limitation is "druids may not wear metal", which is impossible to enforce in NWN, nor has it been enforced, nor is it going to be enforced. Because why argue justification of metal breastplates when you could instead kill PCs with kobold duelists?

Generally, taking one feat or one class that gives you something you feel your character should have is going to be encouraged over builders making modifications to the core game.

Nope. Druids are not permitted to learn any other weapons except whats listed. Multiclassing does not work. The only work around is being a full elf which automatically gives you bow proficency.

Anyhoo thanks for sound off.

My druid wields a greataxe. shy

So yes, multiclassing is one way for a druid to gain other weapon proficiency feats.

Why would not multiclassing work?

You can't select any weapon proficiency feat while levelling as a Druid or Shapeshifter, but multiclassing does work and will give you the automatic weapon proficiency feats of that class and you can also select a weapon proficiency feat while levelling another class.
