Randomly decided to check in after years and see talk of Doordie and Amel. Lots of fun memories! Arguably my first long time character, Narwyn, ended up closely aligned with Amel as his protege.

Doordie was one of the best RP's I ever played with. His stories, with his character Amel, were amazing. Rich, deep, complex. I hope Doordie is doing well! You have a really great Uncle!

The apocalypse is coming though, and divinity on Thain will change with it, along with a strategy for how all DMs can jointly use a pantheon on Thain-specific deities...

*cue dark and brooding music; zoom out to show the silhoutte of a hooded person looking towards the darkness of the West...*

This worries me a bit. One of the things that makes a PW different from a Connections campaign, for example, is that there is more space for individual character stories. An 'end of the world' scenario tends to override everything else.

Plus there's the fact that like some others here, I've never done the main quests despite being here a while, so this might have less meaning for me.

The problem I see, is change... I am not keen for change and Thain suits me fine how it is. I would not like to see change ruin that.

I have never been able to complete or go through the main quest either and it seems it is going to stay that way.

I'm not sure how serious this apocalypse warning is, but I'm actually interested. I must admit I'm far into the main quest and that could affect my perception.

[IC point of view] But when the world collapses, it takes everyone, regardless of their knowledge. The main quest makes very little sense if it is repeated every monday by a group of adventurers. All our PCs on Thain know about the riftstone. If they choose not to get interested into the background of this... well too bad for them when chaos erupts. [/IC point of view]

From a more OOC point of view, I think there is growing knowledge of the implications of the main quest among quite a lot of PCs. It will be only a matter of months before the interest fades out. And a new order will have to take place.

The thing that would concern me about this apocalypse is that it seems predetermined - as though it is coming, period and nothing characters do could prevent it. If characters are just along for the trip, and can't actually affect the outcome - that could prove frustrating. That said, I didn't read the quote above as some planned plotline. It was originally posted in the "NWN2 - new or same realm" thread. So I figured that migration, NWN -> NWN2 was the 'apocalypse' being referred to. [ Edited 01:25:39 PM 01/15/06 ]

All good points.

In general, I see predetermined outcomes to be a serious problem. Little is worse than to know your efforts can't make any difference on the outcome, because it's been decided already.

I've heard mention of an upcoming Thain "Apocalypse" before, and I don't recall it being in discussions of NWN2. Still, I've seen PW's use an Apocalypse event of one kind or another to revitalize play, mark transition to a fresh module, or even to shut down. Doubtless, if there is a looming Apocalypse, the staff has good reasons for it, and some of those reasons might even be revealed as the main quest is done. Perhaps the signs are there if you've been in the right places to see them.

If an Apocalypse is intended to mark an eventual transition to a NWN2 version of Thain, then that's a pretty good use of the technique, in my opinion. Whatever new module the builders hope to work on might be set in a successor age of Thain that postdates this looming catastrophe, much as Thain itself postdates an earlier age I know only a little about.

Without having confirmed that this is serious, I can say I don't see a problem with it. I would welcome the opportunity to start Gharos over if it came to that smile

Tragedies are part of Thain... I suppose when put like Amber has above it does not seem all that bad. My question is though, if this is to happen. Are we to begin our characters again, create completely different ones or what?

There is no reason to worry about your characters, or the world, so far as I know smile

Please do not worry yourselves un-necessarily by extrapolating things from one comment by Bonesly grin

Perhaps it is going to be like the Time of Troubles... changes in magic, the gods,,, or perhaps Thain is being sucked to another place... tongue

Heh heh... as LF said, it was just some OOC fore-shadowing and has nothing to do with NWN2 or a dreaded server-wipe; your chars are safe (OOC that is! tongue). It does have to do with the statements Yas made about DMs being tied to (and possessive of) one deity... pretty much sucks if you as a player comit to a deity and that DM moves on as other DMs refuse to touch it with a 10-ft pole; less so if your deity ordains a high-priestess PC and that player moves on, but still an impact. The apocolypse is meant to be an integral part of the evolving Thain story-line and, as an aside, solve that problem but that's as much up to players as staff.

The apocolypse is coming--that's a given (all this tension build-up has to boil over at some ponit, doesn't it?). PCs can choose sides or sit it out, but their actions could shape the after-math... Saying how would sort of be a spoiler now wouldn't it? tongue

Some folks had a great time with the Raven's Watch event. Others believed that the staff's story-line amounted to griefing against their characters... Your PC has a certain influence in the world, but compared to the world events in motion, that infuence is small. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. Give up before you start and you might as well play another world or game. Tough balancing act and I have no real answers other than "just RP your char and roll with the story."
