Randomly decided to check in after years and see talk of Doordie and Amel. Lots of fun memories! Arguably my first long time character, Narwyn, ended up closely aligned with Amel as his protege.
Doordie was one of the best RP's I ever played with. His stories, with his character Amel, were amazing. Rich, deep, complex. I hope Doordie is doing well! You have a really great Uncle!

Create Undead has the potential to be great, but unfortunately falls short, far short. When you analyze Create Undead, an 8th level wizard/sorcerer spell, it is surprising to find that it summons a creature that in any area aside from kobolds or goblins is going to get smashed or be just a momentary distraction while you run away.
However, when you look at the spell Animate dead, a 5th level wizard/sorcerer spell, it is incredible, as far as summons go. It actually helps you, it isn't immensely overpowered for areas, and provides the RP and mechanical backing to make it a worthwhile part of a spell book. This seems the reverse of how it should be. The lower level spell summons a creature that is superior in every way to the higher level spell. It would be a wonderful thing to see the higher level version of this spell beefed up a bit.
My idea, as it is mine it may not agree with everyone's, is that the spell Create Undead should be if the staff or builders do not have time to rework the entire thing and make it a new spell all together, is to make it work like Create Greater Undead for Clerics. That way there is an increase that is comparable to the level of caster doing the summoning.
Any response that wishes to argue RP vs Mechanics, please refrain. I'm not looking for an argument about that, I'm looking for a possible balance to the spell progression of wizards/sorcerer in regards to the undead summoning spells.
Yeah, the ghoul sucks. It's very discouraging. It would be nice if it was useful.
Unfortunately we don't have the builder power right now to do anything with spell adjustments.
Current active build staff is two people, and we both work full time, so we're mostly focused on stuff that is completely broken, and plot-related requirements.
Insert usual line about "if you know anyone who knows how scripting works and has scads of free time and would like to look over a backlog of stuff going back two years, PM me".

I believe this was already tinkered with, previously. As seen here: -Clickedy-
Given we are talking for an arcane caster, A level 8 spell requires a level 15 casting requirement. This is the wight and one level from the spectre. At level 16 the spectre kicks in. The spectre has had, previously from Miggen, a massive boost to the creature to make the spell a great deal more useful.
I'm uncertain if he fiddled with the other critters, but there was some work done on the spell previously.

While Create Undead is often thought of as an eighth level spell, it's worth noting that clerics also receive it as a sixth level spell. Ergo, altering it to work like Create Greater Undead would be rather problematic.
It certainly is too weak by default, though. I haven't fussed around enough with the current version on Thain to comment beyond that.
