Randomly decided to check in after years and see talk of Doordie and Amel. Lots of fun memories! Arguably my first long time character, Narwyn, ended up closely aligned with Amel as his protege.
Doordie was one of the best RP's I ever played with. His stories, with his character Amel, were amazing. Rich, deep, complex. I hope Doordie is doing well! You have a really great Uncle!

Good idea; I'll do that both with and without the cloak hiding override.
--- Edit: Results added ---
Hamley, East gate, three cloaked Empyreans walking
Cloaks: 22-25
No Cloaks: 32-35
Hamley, Fire overlooking cows w/ one Empyrean walking by
Cloaks: 36-42
No Cloaks: 44-54
Hamley, West gate, two cloaked Empyrean archers on the hill
Cloaks: 22-23
No Cloaks: 31-38
I tried to get the view consistent, but it's hard -- FPS changes with zoom and camera angle greatly.

I get hardly any difference between cloaks and no-cloaks (using the client override) - something to do with having a dual core processor maybe?
edit: specs - AMD X2 3800, 2gb RAM, 6800GT, audigy 2 ZS. Settings - 1024x768, 4xAA 8xAF, full details (shadows, grass etc.) but not shiney water (darn NVidia bug). Hardware sound+EAX
Hamley
cloaks: ~38
no cloaks: 38-40
CR grove
cloaks: ~79
no cloaks: ~75
CR Campfire (3 PCs)
cloaks: ~36
no cloaks: ~31
Bloodguard lookout
cloaks: 34-40
no-cloaks: ~32
Long road north campfire:
cloaks: ~74
no cloaks: ~76
Ravenswatch gate:
cloaks: 50-60
no cloaks: 40-70
The fps does vary a lot sometimes, but this was taken in the DM client with identical angle and zoom levels for comparisons.

Can I ask whether people have shiney water enabled or not? I've just been playing with some of the diagnostics stuff in NWN and while I have a bug with shiney water, it increased the GPU load between 33-50% compared to exactly the same shot without shiney water.

I have lowered all my graphics settings since the cloaks came in, grass off, water off, lower quality of graphics, shadows off, lower lights etc, etc. Kinda made things bearable (apart from last night!)

I think I should point out that FPS has absolutely nothing to do with lag.
Lag is a case of network packets either taking a long time, or getting lost. Unless 1.68 added to the bandwidth requirement of the game, I don't think lag is an issue.
Now FPS might be an issue, but that's a local issue. Cloaks may be adding a big burden to your GPU, but that's not lag. If lowering your graphics settings improves your problems, then it's not lag. It's simply a case of your hardware being overburdened.

We're using "lag" as a generic term to indicate a performance degradation, regardless of the source. It is also how I see the term being used in the Bioware discussion threads (although another person there gave a technical definition of latency and packet-drops, what matters is that the enjoyment of the game is impacted by a performance issue).

I understand where you're going there, but I don't think many people are making the same connection. Over the last few days, I've noticed lag... network latency and packet-loss. I've also noticed some minor (on my new hardware) performance issues. Typically it's just a case of the stutter that is associated with the loading of new textures. In any case, it's nothing that worries me, though it might worry people with hardware a lot closer to the minimum specs.
The big point I'm trying to make is that much of the anecdotal evidence seems to point to network issues and not hardware issues. I'd hate to see cloaks get tossed out if they weren't a major issue. I'd also hate to see that if it was only a problem for those with very low-end systems.
