Randomly decided to check in after years and see talk of Doordie and Amel. Lots of fun memories! Arguably my first long time character, Narwyn, ended up closely aligned with Amel as his protege.
Doordie was one of the best RP's I ever played with. His stories, with his character Amel, were amazing. Rich, deep, complex. I hope Doordie is doing well! You have a really great Uncle!

'kay, logged in at server time 20:25, ping was 145
T&T Basement: 31
CR Grove: 28
Feywood Fire: 20-68
Hamley Fire: ~27
(all taken fully zoomed out, graphix on their normal pretty settings)
(dunno why the rates were so hugely variable in Feywood! Didn't seem to matter whether scouts were walking by or not, wasn't changing camera angles...)

Niv wrote ... I'd hate to see cloaks get tossed out if they weren't a major issue. I'd also hate to see that if it was only a problem for those with very low-end systems.
I'd hate to figure out that the minimum spec has crept up significantly higher than what was advertised for HotU. I'd hate to lose players because someone made a decision to leave them behind when they could join just fine with NWN v1.67. I'm hoping to find out and unfortuantely ping and FPS are the only qunatitative measures that players can easily provide (even the "timegraph 2" command doesn't provide numbers). I'll be profiling, but I don't expect any scripts to be out of line, yet something to do with 1.68 is adversely affecting performance for a lot of players (not just on Thain either).
To those that have provided numbers thank you! I'll be asking you to repeat those numbers sometime after the cloaks are tempoararily disabled (about an hour after maintenance). For those that haven't provided numbers yet, but would like to help, you'll have an hour after the server comes back up.

AMD AthalonXP 3700+, 1GB RAM, 512MB GeForce 7950 GT OC on a 20.1" Widescreen LCD at 1680x1050 60MHz refresh, full antialiasing, Antiscoptic Filters, all effects, including grass, but minus shiney water and no VSynch.
Dawn House
no cloaks, before Cathe opens bedroom door) ~159.8fps
No Cloaks, after door opened ~ 70-80fps
Ravenswatch
Still no cloaks - 51-63fps
Long Road North
Still no cloaks, lots of wolves and thugs. 49-58fps
Hamely
Night, no spiders, no empyreans, town not in view (going towards and away from town) ~62-65 fps
In town, with cloaks visible ~ 33-38fps
In town, no cloaks visible ~ 50-58fps
Crossroads North
Just west path ~ 48-59fps
Crossroads
Goblin area ~ 52-58fps
Trade, no cloaks ~ 49-56
Trade, cloaks ~ 33-38
Trade and Tackle
No cloaks seen ~ 52-58
Ping when I logged in was 75
Something I noticed. In the seamstress in Stien, fps was 58 with Cathe's cloak hidden. Put it on, its 68, so I turned Cathe around, went down to 58. Put on her armor instead of shiney robe, went up to 68 again, disabled cloak, up to 74.

If you provided ping/FPS data *with* cloaks, please do so again now that we're running *without* cloaks--Editing your original post to append the new numbers at the same locations would be greatly appreciated.

Well as I noted in the chatbox, the override of the other cloak indices only seems to work client-side (I couldn't see cloaks, but others could). If you want to try this out--then unzip the file attached and drop it in your override, then re-report your numbers. I don't think it'll make much difference (it didn't for me), but it'd be nice to know for sure.

Profiling data for v2.43...
By some vagrance of disk-drive performance measuring, playerrespoint improved (the delta column is relative to v2.08--the last time I profiled), but almost every other script that sucks a lot of time is running slower (even ones we didn't touch! ). The newbiepopup is a new addition that touches the database (and thus is slow), but it's low frequency so not so much an issue (the low frequency ones are in yellow). The ones in red, we will be looking at to figure out if we did something bad...
Here's the benchmark for v2.08
...and the symbology:
> Runscript hooked
@ Cross area pathfinding hooked
$ Tile pathfinding hooked
I wish I'd taken a profile of Thain v2.41 with NWN v1.67 *sighs*

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask this but is there a way to remove cloaks all together for a person?
Like can I delete all the cloaks in my files so I never see them? Because it's caused ridiculously large amounts of lag whenever more then 2 people are in the area..it's completely insane.

Look two posts up--get 136_cloakmodel.zip, unzip it, and drop the .2da file in your nwn/override directory--all cloaks will be disabled. Note that because it's in your override it affects all modules, not just Thain.
I'd be interested to know if this solves things for you... it seems the scripts take longer than they used to which could be do to a number of reasons.
